Make Check-In Simple

Confirm the hotel’s location and check-in arrangements before booking. Bring your passport; if staying in a private home, check the local accommodation-registration process.

Before arrival, ask the hotel to confirm the exact branch, Chinese address, reception hours, and that staff can process your passport registration. This is particularly useful for a small guesthouse, self-check-in apartment, or a property with an entrance that differs from its map pin.

Send a question that reception can answer

Confirm your reservation remains valid for a late arrival and how you will contact staff. Ask about a deposit and the accepted payment methods. A paid room does not necessarily include breakfast, and a quoted refundable rate has its own deadline. Keep the answers with the booking.

At the desk

Present the original passport and reservation. Staff usually record the document and relevant entry information for the hotel’s accommodation registration. Keep your document accessible rather than at the bottom of stored luggage. A copy is useful as a backup, but do not assume it is sufficient for check-in.

Before paying a deposit, clarify the amount, refund method, and when any hold or refund will be released. Check the room type, beds, and amenities that matter to you. If you need step-free access, describe the actual route and bathroom requirements; “accessible” can conceal several different arrangements.

Private accommodation needs a registration plan too

Hotels generally handle the required registration for guests. For a private stay, official guidance requires accommodation registration within 24 hours; confirm the local process with your host and the relevant authorities. Beijing has described its own procedures, but one city’s online option should not be advertised as a nationwide method.

If a host cannot explain who will complete registration, resolve it before arrival or choose another arrangement. Save reception’s telephone number and Chinese address for the journey from the station. Checking a few operational details in advance is more valuable than discovering them after a late-night transfer.

Check Access, Not Just Distance

Check Access, Not Just Distance

Confirm step-free entrances, lifts, and accessible toilets with the venue or operator. Old lanes and historic buildings may need more planning than a map suggests.
