Pack for the Day Ahead
Bring comfortable shoes, weather layers, tissues, and your charging essentials. Check current airline and rail rules before packing a power bank.

Pack a city day differently from a mountain day or a transfer day. The most useful items are those you can reach when a service asks for them: the original passport for a booked train or attraction, a charged phone for payment, and the small supplies needed between planned stops.
A compact city-day bag
- Original passport when a booked service requires it; keep it dry and secure.
- Charged phone, suitable charging cable, and a compliant power bank if you use one.
- Tissues, hand-cleaning supplies, a small water supply, and a light rain or sun layer appropriate to the forecast.
- Renminbi cash and a physical card kept separately from the phone.
- Essential personal medication and any supporting documents needed for your circumstances.
What changes outside the city
For Huangshan, a cable-car ride does not remove every flight of steps. For a gorge or terrace visit, the road endpoint may still leave a substantial walk. Wear suitable shoes and check the actual route, altitude, weather, and access. Add warm or waterproof layers for the place you will visit, not only the weather shown for your hotel.
Do not assume drinking water or food can be bought at every scenic stop. Ask about managed supply points and carry what the planned route requires. Keep the bag small enough to move comfortably, and obey the attraction’s rules on equipment and access.
Before a flight or long transfer
Keep identity documents, valuables, and essential medication with you rather than inside stored or checked luggage. For medicines, check official import rules and obtain suitable documentation where needed; an overseas brand may not be available locally. Power banks have separate aviation requirements, including China’s domestic-flight CCC checks, so inspect yours before packing.
Prepare the next day’s bag the evening before. Save the Chinese hotel address and the issued ticket offline, then separate luggage that can be stored from items you must retain. An organized departure is more useful than buying extra equipment without knowing what the route demands.
